Welcome to the 2018-2019 Swim Season!
While our season will be dedicated to Coach Vince, we are excited to announce we have a new head coach. Please welcome Coach Jared Price as the new leader of our community. See below for his bio and watch for new updates here. Jared's Bio:
I have around 18 years of swimming experience, since I started at the age of 5 under Betsy Patterson. I’ve been coaching at the JCC in the Sundance league for four years and have one year of experience coaching at the high school level, where I was the assistant coach for Sandia High School. I now teach swim lessons for a living under Ashley Patterson, Betsy’s daughter, at the Fish Factory Swim School. I graduated from La Cueva in 2014, and I'm one year away from obtaining my Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at the University of New Mexico, though I still don't know what my future looks like in that field. Below are communications sent via email last year but included here for reference.
Today's events: (January 12, 2018) Pictures at Kinney damn right after school. Please be prompt. Boys should leave right away to get to the pool for the team meeting. After practice is team dinner for boys, sleepover for girls.
All money and unused car wash tickets should be turned into Lesa Richard this Saturday at the swim meet. Each student was required to sale 8 or buyout at $48. Even if you choose the buyout option, the unsold tickets have to be returned.
Attached are the entries for Saturdays meet. I tried to remember everyone who was taking the ACT, if I left you in please let me know.
The location of the pool is: Rio Rancho Aquatic Center 745 Loma Colorado Blvd. Rio Rancho 87124 Swimmers need to be there by 8:00 to watch diving, warm-up will start at 9:00 AM. Thanks Coach Vince

Thank you Coach Vince Thanks to all who came for a great first day of practice. A couple of things to go over with before we get too far into the season.
1. With practice time for the swim team adjusting, all athletes need to be at Highland Pool by 4:00 PM. 2. Just a reminder, I need the blue slip from the trainer before you can start practicing. Physicals must be turned into the trainer at La Cueva, not to me. 3. Any athlete who does not attend La Cueva, please let me know. This includes home school, charter schools or foreign exchange students, we need to make sure all paperwork is completed for this. 4. Your Swim and Dive Booster Club is kicking off the season with our pancake breakfast fundraiser. This year's fundraiser will be "Breakfast for Dinner" and will be hosted Saturday, October 28 from 5-7pm. Due to changes with Applebee's, it has been moved to St. Johns Methodist Church, Family Life Center (2626 Arizona St NE). Each swimmer/diver is asked to work the event and sell 8 tickets at $10 each or buyout the tickets at $48. The tickets were distributed during lunch today and again tomorrow. Have your athlete see me at the attendance desk. Profit from tickets sold above 8 will to credited directly to your athlete's account and be deducted from the $160 dues. All money will be collected by the treasurer, Lesa Richards, at the event. Swimmers need to arrive by 4:45 and should be finished by 7:15. I have attached the sheet of tickets in the event your athlete sells more than the 16 given or they did not receive them at all. If you have any questions, please email me. 5. After the fundraiser, there will be a swim team movie night. This will start at 8:00 PM and will be at 6512 Meadow Hill NE, 87111. Please plan on attending, this will be a great time to meet your new teammates. 6. Remind 101. To join our text updates text the number 810-10. In the message put @lswim. This will join you to your text list for any text updates we may have. Thanks Coach Vince
I have received an updated practice schedule from APS and it is a little different than what was presented earlier. We now practice from 4:15-5:30 at Highland Pool.
Diving practice will be 3:30 to 5:00 at Valley pool on Monday and Weds. 5:30-7:00 on Tues. and Thurs. at Sandia Pool. It will alternate locations every Friday, the first week will be at Valley. Remember you must have your physical turned into the trainer at La Cueva and present me the blue slip before you can practice. Thanks Coach Vince Hello Bear Parents! 2017-2018
We are getting closer to the beginning of the season, so I want to share some upcoming dates. 1. October 4th parent/athlete meeting for all interested athletes in the La Cueva Swimming and diving team. This will take place at the lecture hall starting at 7:00 PM. At this meeting we will have a schedule for the upcoming season as well as all other information you may need. 2. First day of practice has not been announced yet, but I am shooting for the 23rd of October. We practice 4:30 to 6:00 at Highland Pool. In order to practice, you must have a completed APS physical on file with the trainer at La Cueva. If you do not attend La Cueva, you must stop by the school to turn in your physical. If you are competing in a fall sport, they psychical will already be on file. 3. An email was sent about the car wash fundraiser earlier this week, I hope to see everyone there. Thanks Coach Vince Attached is the line-up for Saturday. Swimmers need to be at the pool by 7:10 AM. This should be a fairly quick meet due to only five teams competing. We will be on the East Side of the pool. Even if you are not swimming in the meet, you are expected to be there cheering for your teammates.
Jack Hoagland set the team record for the 100 Breast at the Tom Casey Invite with a time of 59.09. This is a record that was around since the late 80’s. We have two weeks and a few days left in the season, I will be updating everyone on upcoming events, entries and dates as soon as things are finalized. Entries for State are due on the 12th of February at 11:59 PM. If you would like to see who has qualified, you may look at this link: https://www.directathletics.com/view_public_entries.html?sport=swimming&meet_hnd=12839 I hope everyone had a wonderful break and got some serious training in. We are starting towards the final part of our season, the next few weeks will go by very quickly.
This Saturday we are swimming at West Mesa, the line up for the meet is attached. I need all swimmers to be at the pool by 7:15 AM. If you attend and charter school or are home schooled, I will need a copy of your first semester grades as soon as possible. Also a reminder, La Cueva is keeping track of unexcused absences. I receive a list every other week. If your number gets too high, you will not be allowed to compete. Thanks Coach Vince |
